While bees are very beneficial in pollinating our crops and making delicious honey, they can also severely impact your homes, especially if you have small kids. It is even worse if a person in your household is allergic to bee stings. At times, they can make nests inside our homes in places such as chimneys, cracks, walls or even in the living area. They can also inhabit holes in the ground. Thankfully, there are many ways that you can apply to kill them. And since honey bee populations are diminishing first, it is advisable to kill honey bee colonies if they pose a threat to our safety.

Soapy Water

Bees usually suffocate when sprayed with a mixture of soap and water.  The soap solution eats through the wax coating of the bee’s body, and as they absorb the water, they get drowned. Pure water has high surface tension and will not get through the body of the bee, but soap breaks the tension making it possible to get absorbed. You can make the mixture by adding equal amounts of dishwashing soap and water. Be sure to wear protective clothing before you embark on the mission. It is advisable to spray while 10 feet away from them. You should drown the bees entirely with the solution.

Moth Balls

On top of repelling bees, mothballs contain a chemical constituent known as naphthalene that kills the bees when they inhale the vapour. In most cases, bees usually flee for good rather than die from the vapours. 

Vinegar

Vinegar spray or solution is a natural and very effective way to get rid of bees quickly. They usually die instantly on exposure to the solution. Another awesome thing about vinegar is that it is cheap and readily available for use. You can simply make a strong solution with vinegar and water and spray on the bees to get rid of them. 

Insecticides 

Insecticides contain active ingredients that cause death to the insects like bees.  When applied to them, they suffer paralysis and die instantly. They can either be in powder or liquid form. To use insecticides to eliminate bees, you should adhere to the safety protocols of the specific insecticide that you are spraying. Chemicals usually have adverse effects on humans and animals hence should avoid direct contact with them. 

While getting rid of a bee nest, you should do so at night when all the bees are resting in the hive. This way, you will have minimal survivors.  Even at night, be sure to use protective clothing to prevent attacks by bees. Also, take precautions to avoid inhaling the aerosols. 

Electric Bug Zappers

Electric bug zappers use ultraviolet to attract bees or insects and electrocute them to death. It uses a high voltage of electricity and electrocutes the bees instantly. It is a popular way of eliminating bees and is best used at night. They get attracted to the light in the device, fall into the trap, get electrocuted, and drop immediately. Electric bug zapper emits blue colour, which is one of the bees’ favourite hues. One of its advantages is that it is non-toxic and chemical-free. It is highly effective as it catches hundreds of bees at a go.

Borax
