How much should l charge for my honey?

For most beekeepers, one of their key goals is to get some delicious honey. If they are lucky enough, they are able to make some surplus honey which gives them a way of making profit. It is good to know how to price your honey since you don’t want to sell it at a high price, and at the same time, you don’t want to sell at a loss.  Every beekeeper should aim at making a decent profit. All the costs involved should be added to the sale price.

How much should l charge for my honey? 

Most consumers want to get the best products at the lowest price. And nothing is wrong with that. On the other side, a beekeeper gets a good price for their honey to ease the pain of expenses and hard work. The price of honey ranges from $5 to $ 10 per pound depending on the nectar source, quality, location, jar size, and time of the year. Raw, organic honey should attract a premium price compared to honey from bees treated with chemicals or honey heated during harvesting. The best thing about honey is that it does not get spoiled unless contaminated. You can decide to package and store it until the demand gets high. Some beekeepers also add additives such as corn syrup.

How do l come up with a selling price?

To arrive at a selling price for your honey, you will require to know the price in your region. In some way, you are subject to what other beekeepers in your region are doing. If they are selling at a low price, it is hard to get twice as much. You may charge a little more than them but you must know how to market your product. Perhaps, your product is organic. 

You should not forget to add your expenses to the profit. You may also visit grocery stores, farmer’s markets, grocery stores, and health food stores to check the honey prices. Many beekeepers selling honey in your locality will mean selling at a lowers price. But if they are few you can sell at high prices. Selling honey in bulk gives the advantage to do away with large quantities of honey at once or make many separate sales. without having to package individually. You can approach companies that deal with tonnes of honey.  they give their specifications that you must adhere to.  However, the returns are minimal.

You may require to bottle and package honey for retail which plays a huge part in pricing. The packaging depends on whether you are selling to high-end customers or to neighbours. 

Floral source

Nectar sources impact the value and flavour of honey. Some floral sources such as tupelo, manuka, etc are a bit pricey. 

Marketing and presentation

The use of labels, decorative designs, or personalized logos will increase your expenses. These should be considered while pricing.  A visually appealing product will attract buyers.

Is producing honey difficult?

Producing honey is quite a process. Honey bees collect nectar from millions of flowers and convert it to honey.
